Austerity Program with Tournament and Wet Nurse tonight at Union Pool!!!!!!!

The Austerity Program have a show tonight at Union Pool... here's a review I posted of one of their shows from last summer.  I had never even heard of these guys until a year ago and they've quickly become one of my favorite bands... a quick scan of Tuddd Archives reveals that I've actually seen these guys live at least 6 times since last May, including once a few weeks ago (here's some pics from that show).  They're working on a new EP and the new shit sounds fucking fantastic.

Wet Nurse and Tournament are also playing, and I having seen them both live I recommend them highly as well.  Seriously, it's fucking hot out and you're going to be sweating your ass off no matter what you're doing, so why not come out and thrash at Union Pool while swillin' PBRs?  See you there.

OMG teh Chris Cornell

   

    Today I was listening to -- and enjoying the fuck out of -- Badmotorfinger on the 4 train to and from the Bronx, remembering how awesome Soundgarden was and how into them I was during the '90s.  At no point did Mr. Cornell's most recent collaboration with the esteemed Timbaland cross my mind during this listening experience; mostly I was just thinking things like "man, I totally forgot that 'Searching With My Good Eye Closed' is pretty much the best stoner rock song ever." Etc.

    I realize that it's not exactly a challenge to critique Chris Cornell's new sound, but it's really rare that anyone makes a career move this embarrassing.  Absolutely brutal.

    (for the record, the song doesn't actually reach historic levels of awfulness until the chorus.  But that chorus... just listen to it, my god.)

Karl Malone is a Menace

This is hilarious... it's a website devoted to documenting all of the injuries caused by Karl Malone during his NBA career.  (Yes, he is apparently kicking Robert Horry in the balls in the above pic.)  Several of the entries are incomplete, but what's there is entertaining (and informative!).  Some of the more vindictive quotes from the site:

• Of course, Malone supports his team, too -- only he does it by hurting opponents, not just helping his teammates.
• Yes, the man is talented and an amazing athlete. But he is also a dangerous, arrogant bastard, and without the protection of the refs and the NBA he would never be an MVP, and would probably not be an all-pro.
