I hesitated to write this entry, because there's little fun in kicking a dead dog. This restaurant is pretty obviously going to go out of business sometime in the near future, but shed no tears for Blondees; it kinda sucks.
Pretty sure I've never been to a restaurant that's as poorly reviewed on Yelp as this place - one-and half stars = YIKES in a truly historical sense. Unfortunately, for the most part I have to agree with the negative reviews. Although the service wasn't anywhere as bad as those Yelp entries had suggested (the waitresses were friendly and attentive prior to ending the meal on a disastrous note), the quality of the food was subpar, and we felt the prices were unreasonably high.
The top picture above is of one of the daily "specials," Filet Mignon tips with fondue, for $23. Ripoff. The meat, although tender, was served lukewarm at best, and the "fondue" was room temperature. Some genius decided that placing a tiny tea candle under the pot of melted cheese would be sufficient to heat it, but *surprise* it wasn't even fucking close. Shame, because otherwise the cheese sauce had decent flavor.
Second picture down is the "puffy tacos" - fresh Mahi Mahi with a chipotle aioli and a fresh corn salsa. These were honestly quite good, and the fish was prepared perfectly. No complaints here.
Third picture down is the "fresh tuna sliders" - fresh seared tuna encrusted in sesame seeds with a wasabi aioli and arugula. These were also very nice, although two for $15 is ridiculous. Listen, I understand that tapas are, by and large, a total ripoff, but that doesn't mean I have to just roll over and accept it.
Fourth picture is of the "bohn mi [sic] sliders" - the menu described them as pulled pork, homemade pickles and a Vietnamese slaw with fresh cilantro. First off, the pork was obviously pretty fucking far from fresh, and had the telltale flavor of something that's just been sitting around for awhile. Talk about having no pride in your product, and no respect for your customers. Honestly, these sliders were the worst food I can remember actually paying money for in quite some time. And calling these "banh mi" is a total joke - you need more than unflavored shredded vegetables for it to actually be banh mi. A good start would've been serving these, as advertised, with the "homemade pickles" which were nonexistent on this plate.
We also had an issue with the our check. We had an expired Groupon, and we called twice (once a couple days before going to Blondees, once day-of) to see if they would still accept it. Both times, we were cheerily told that, yes, they would honor the coupon. Clearly that's kind of them, but for a restaurant that's racked up such a poor reputation in such a brief time, they need to start actually impressing an actual paying customer at some point, right? Anyway, long story short, after the meal we were informed that, *no,* they were not going to honor the full value of the Groupon after all. How about GO FUCK YOURSELVES? We protested briefly, but the waitress interrupted us with the reasoning (?) that "don't worry, all coupons are different." What the does that even MEAN?!
So, yeah, avoid this shithole at all costs. Mediocre food, ridiculous prices, and wait staff that apparently don't know what words mean.
